Wallenberg Wood Science Center (WWSC) aims at pursing research that provides fundamental understanding on a molecular level to enable development of sustainable materials from trees. The research spans broadly from materials biorefinery, fundamental characteristics of wood components, development of advanced characterization methods, and assembly of new material concepts, to various functional materials. Since its inauguration in 2009, WWSC has developed to be a leading milieu in the pursuit of wood/forest-based materials beyond paper and board.
WWSC is a joint research center between the largest engineering universities in Sweden; KTH Royal Institute of Technology (host), Chalmers University of Technology and Linköping University. The center was inaugurated in 2009 and was founded by a generous donation from the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation. The Swedish industry is supporting WWSC via the the platform Treesearch.
